Managing Change Through the Lens of Emotions

Webinar | May 21, 2026 9:30 am

This highly interactive taster session introduces a practical approach to change leadership using the Emotional Culture Deck.

Session outline / promotion

Most change programmes are designed for logic. But people do not resist change because they do not understand the strategy. They struggle because of how the change feels.

During Learning at Work Week, join a small group of senior People leaders for a highly interactive taster session facilitated by Emotional Culture practitioner Yvette Janse van Rensburg, using the Emotional Culture Deck approach to explore change through a different lens – the emotional one.

This session focuses on a simple but often overlooked idea: leaders do not just manage the process of change, they shape how people experience it.

Who this session is for

This session is designed for:

  • Chief People Officers
  • Senior HR / People Directors
  • Organisational Development and Culture leaders

Especially those currently leading or supporting:

  • Transformation programmes
  • Cultural or behavioural change
  • Structural or strategic shifts
  • Growth, integration or restructuring initiatives

If you are responsible for leading your organisation through major change management programmes, then this session is for you.

What we will explore

This is not a presentation about change models. It is a facilitated working session where we explore:

  • How we want people to feel during change
  • How we do not want them to feel (but they might often do)
  • The leadership behaviours that increase the likelihood of one, and reduce the risk of the other

Participants will briefly share the types of change happening in their organisations, and we will work with one live example to build an emotional change canvas together.

You will experience a practical method you can take straight back to your own leadership teams.

What you will take away

By the end of this 2.5‑hour session, participants will:

  • Understand why change adoption is primarily emotional, not rational
  • Build greater self‑awareness of how people experience change
  • Learn a practical framework for defining desired and undesired emotions during change
  • Identify concrete leadership behaviours that support emotional adoption
  • Experience a tool they can immediately use to shape change conversations inside their organisation

Managing Change Through the Lens of Emotions

“Change is a matter of the heart, not the head.”

Most change programmes focus on logic and process. Yet people rarely resist change because they did not understand the strategy; they struggle because of how the change feels.

This highly interactive taster session introduces a practical approach to change leadership using the Emotional Culture Deck. Designed for senior People and Culture leaders, the session explores how leaders can intentionally shape the emotional experience of employees during periods of change.

Led by Emotional Culture practitioner Yvette Janse van Rensburg, participants will work with a live change example to identify:

  • The emotions they want people to experience
  • The emotions they want to reduce
  • The leadership behaviours that influence both

Ideal for: CPOs, HR Directors, OD and Culture leaders supporting transformation, structural change or cultural shifts.

You will leave with a practical framework and tool you can immediately use with your own leadership teams to support more effective, human‑centred change.
