Empowering Career Growth Amid Organisational Change for a Global Mass Media Conglomerate

The Challenge

Background

In 2022, Let’s Talk Talent was approached by a leading multinational mass media conglomerate that was facing a series of organisational challenges following several large-scale mergers. These mergers had left employees across the business feeling uncertain and struggling to adjust to new structures and teams. Amidst the rapid organisational changes, employees were predominantly focused on the challenges rather than viewing the transition as an opportunity for growth.

With an employee community now spanning diverse teams, functions, cultures, and ways of working, the organisation wanted to drive empowerment, so that individuals were upskilled to take ownership of their personal development and careers. This would not only help employees find value in their unique strengths but also create a sense of unity and opportunity across their newly formed teams.

Objective

The organisation partnered with Let’s Talk Talent to create a virtual career workshop which would equip individuals with the tools and techniques to take control of their career growth in this evolving organisational landscape. The sessions developed were a four-part career sprint designed to support employees in their career journeys by helping them identify and build upon their personal strengths, with a view to creating a stronger, more connected culture.

Goals

  1. Drive career empowerment across the organisation
  2. Boost engagement and excitement for a growing global business
  3. Support personal strengths exploration for career development
  4. Enhance cross-unit collaboration and unity across regions

Approach and Implementation

Our approach centred on a career workshop series of four short, interactive workshops (a sprint). Each workshop was designed to build upon the previous, guiding attendees through:

  1. Exploring personal strengths – helping employees recognise and articulate their strengths.
  2. Building career strategies – teaching practical methods for career goal-setting and planning.
  3. Connecting across teams – facilitating interactions between employees from different regions and departments to foster a sense of shared purpose.
  4. Taking ownership of growth – equipping participants with tools and confidence to steer their personal career development.

The workshops were held globally across all regions, enabling cross-cultural dialogue and the sharing of diverse perspectives. The format encouraged high engagement levels by making each session short, actionable, and aligned with the employee’s needs.

The Results

Impact and Results

The programme quickly achieved measurable impact, with notable outcomes including:

  • 400 Attendees in Three Months: The workshops attracted strong participation across regions, underscoring employees’ enthusiasm for career development.
  • NPS Score: Net Promoter Score of 51 reflected participants’ satisfaction with the workshop’s content and delivery.
  • Two New Career Initiatives: Inspired by the workshops, two new career initiatives were developed, enhancing career fluidity and growth opportunities.
  • 65% Increase in Engagement: Participant engagement and enthusiasm surged, reflecting a shift in focus from the challenges of the merger to the opportunities it created.
  • Stronger Regional Connections: Through cross-unit working sessions, the workshops created a sense of unity across EMEA, US, and APAC.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates how targeted, action-oriented career support can transform employee perspectives and morale during significant organisational change. By creating a structured pathway for career empowerment, Let’s Talk Talent helped this organisation turn challenging mergers into a platform for growth, engagement, and cross-functional unity, establishing a culture that recognises and celebrates individual strengths in a globally connected workforce.
