Find out if your career development arsenal is as effective as it could be
Suit: Backed by the organisation
If you’ve picked this card, you’re probably already listing all the training courses and materials you have available within the business. But whilst having a lot of resources at your staff’s disposal is great, the real question is: how are they being used?
When it comes to career progression, your staff should be clear on what they need to do in order to move on to the next stage of their careers.
- What does the next opportunity entail in terms of training?
- Which skills do they need to develop and how can they go about it?
- Is there a clear pathway leading to their next role?
- And are your courses, webinars, training programs and materials available for all use?
- Is there a referral scheme or grading system in place to manage access?
In short, think of your career development resources as a shopping experience: would you say you are like Amazon, with your employees having the ability to quickly find what they need? Or are you more like a charity shop, where everything is kind of on display all at once? Categorising the pathways available for each broad role type will ensure your talent pool is clear on how to unlock their full potential.
