What will make me fulfilled?

Find out what brings you joy and take steps to keep your energy up

Suit: Led by Me

Fulfilment means something different to everyone. Some people need a creative environment in order to thrive and would be thoroughly unfulfilled in a workplace driven by governance, rules and regulations, whilst others love structure and order. This is about finding out what drives you and gives you energy, so you can actively seek out the things that bring you joy, motivation and ultimately, fulfillment.

So how do you find out? A job is made out of so many things, from the colleagues around you to your physical environment, from your manager to the purpose of your role, from your work schedule to the coffee machine in the cafeteria. If your workplace is like a constantly evolving ecosystem, how can you determine which elements amongst the thousands of variables make you feel energised?

Jo, MD at Let’s Talk Talent, likes to use a process of elimination. Start with a list of 30 potential drivers such as this one and in two minutes, create a shortlist of only ten. Then, Remove another three, and keep going until you have your top three. Don’t think too much, and don’t try to separate your personal and professional personas. A career is the professional articulation of your life, and so your job should align with your personal values.

If you’d like a little bit of help getting to know yourself even more, make it fun. Find out which animal you are most similar to using the UCAS buzz quiz here and learn about the types of roles your personality would be most suited to.
